SPEL Opportunities

We recruit for our online Storytelling Program for Experiential Learning (SPEL) program three times a year (*spring, summer and fall*). The 2026 fall semester will run from September 22 to December 1, 2026. SPEL meets remotely every Tuesday for professional development trainings and collaborative story lab time. To be considered, you must be available for these weekly Zoom meetings. Currently, SPEL has the following storytelling teams: Arts & Humanities and Society & Culture and a Copy Editing team. Copy Editing Intern

As a Copy Editing Intern, you will be part of a team that edits all of the stories produced by SPEL participants. After receiving a rapid training workshop from professional journalists specialized in this key editorial skill, you will receive hands-on experience editing new stories each week. Working in a team, you will hone your editing skills and have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the roles and responsibilities of copy editors as you build a portfolio of published work that you’ve edited. You should have experience or a strong interest in pursuing a career in journalism or a related communications field. Familiarity with AP Style is a plus.
