About the job

Summary

At the New York Power Authority, you will be empowered to think big, do good, and transform the energy industry. We are a collaborative team of over 2,400 energy technologists, IT specialists, business experts, hydro engineers, and diverse professionals leading the energy revolution. With state-of-the-art technology, advanced research and development, a modernized infrastructure, and a focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG), we provide New Yorkers with low-cost, clean, reliable power — and we are well on the way to becoming the first end-to-end digital utility in the country.

The Information Security team is responsible for protecting NYPA's critical infrastructure, information assets, and technology environments from evolving cyber threats. As cybersecurity risks continue to increase in frequency and sophistication, additional resources are essential to support the organization's Security Operations Center (SOC), Vulnerability Management, and Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) functions. This internship opportunity will provide valuable support to key cybersecurity initiatives while helping develop the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

We are seeking a highly motivated student pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. The Cybersecurity Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting security monitoring, threat detection, vulnerability assessments, cyber threat analysis, and security operations activities within a critical infrastructure environment.

The intern will assist the Security Operations Center with monitoring and triaging security alerts, analyzing potential cybersecurity incidents, and documenting investigative findings. The individual will also support the Vulnerability Management program by helping identify, track, prioritize, and report on vulnerabilities across enterprise systems and applications. In addition, the intern will contribute to Cyber Threat Intelligence efforts by researching emerging threats, threat actors, indicators of compromise, and industry trends relevant to the energy sector.

The successful candidate will work closely with cybersecurity professionals across multiple disciplines and will be encouraged to take initiative in identifying opportunities to improve security processes, enhance threat visibility, and support ongoing cybersecurity projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to cybersecurity operations within one of the nation's largest public power organizations.

Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 8th - August 13th, 2026. As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.

Applications will close on December 31st, 2026.
