About the job
Digital Humanities & Archives Internship for Indigenous Students
The Abbagadassett *Digital Humanities & Archives Internship for Indigenous Students* is a 300-hour summer internship focused on connecting Indigenous students with paid opportunities in the museum or archival sector. This internship offers valuable, hands-on experience for students studying library science, archival studies, public history, or the humanities.
Learning opportunities include working with a digitized collection of glass plate negatives from the Portland *Press Herald*'s photograph files and matching them to their published newspaper issue; research and documentation methods; cataloguing and descriptive methodologies; and digital file management.
Through this experience, the intern will explore varied aspects of library, archival, and museum-related topics as well as industry best practices. In the interest of building a tangible experience to assist with career or educational goals, the intern will create a deliverable, such as an online exhibit or blog post, to demonstrate learned skill sets.
This position is performed remotely, with some hybrid capability. Training is provided on-site, but the intern must use their own computer with reliable access to the internet. MHS will provide access to necessary databases. Ideal candidates are current undergraduate or graduate students; rising undergraduate freshmen and recent graduates may also apply.
