Facilities Maintenance Intern, SSC / University of South Florida

JOB SUMMARY: The Facilities Maintenance Intern will support the maintenance operations team by managing and tracking projects, performing inspections, and coordinating with contractors and university personnel. This hands-on internship provides exposure to a variety of facilities maintenance tasks including summer dormitory make-readies, preventive and corrective maintenance, and project coordination. Responsibilities: - Manage, track, and complete assigned projects in a timely and efficient manner. - Provides quality customer service by providing one-on-one attention to detail. - Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures. - Performs minor repairs to doors, fixtures and furniture. - Records information from meters and gauges at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. - Makes adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems. - Regularly replaces HVAC air filters. - Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created. - Moves heavy furniture, equipment and supplies either manually or by using hand trucks. - Mows and trims lawns and shrubbery, using mowers and hand and power trimmers; clears debris. - Notifies managers about the needs for major repairs or additions to building operating systems. - Removes snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking areas. - Sets up, arranges and removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events. - Ad-hoc cleaning of building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming; gathers and empties trash; services, cleans and supplies restrooms. - Supervise general maintenance and licensed trades personnel, ensuring completion of daily work orders. - Conduct inspections of both corrective and preventive maintenance tasks; report and document any deficiencies. - Collaborate with client representatives to develop scopes of work for various maintenance projects. - Communicate scope of work to SSC’s subcontractors and request pricing as needed. - Prepare, present, and revise project estimate sheets for client approval. - Once projects are approved, manage execution from start to completion, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery. - Adhere to all SSC, University, and Environmental Health and Safety regulations and policies.

Qualifications: - Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. - Strong organizational and communication skills. - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail. - Basic understanding of maintenance operations, construction, or project management is preferred. - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). - Willingness to work in various campus settings and perform occasional physical tasks. - Valid Non-CDL Class C driver’s license may be required.
