About the job
The Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Global Internship
*Build a future in the field of HAI.* The Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Global Internship Program at The Sam and Myra Ross Institute offers a unique immersion experience for individuals interested in exploring the human-animal bond and nature-based activities to benefit children with special needs. This hands-on opportunity takes place in Green Chimneys’ enriched and supportive environment where students receive individualized therapeutic education and clinical services.
The Leir Internship can serve as a supplementary practicum in training for a career in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Veterinary Science, Animal Care and Program Administration. There is no academic pre-requisite.
For those looking to explore new career options, the Leir Internship provides great insight into work within an educational or direct care environment, collaboration with and support of youth, operation of an animal or farm facility, and policies and practices in humane education and animal advocacy.
Program Offerings
The Leir Internship is a full-time, 8-12 month commitment. Interns participate in farm operations and programming five days a week, as well as occasional weekend activities and events. A short-term summer immersion opportunity is also available.
The Leir Internship offers a compensation package that includes room and board, as well as a one-time travel stipend for interns who live more than 100 miles from Green Chimneys. Local participants are eligible for a daily meal plan and weekly commuter stipend. View all details in the Leir Internship Guide >
