Food Pantry Intern

Position Overview:

The Food Pantry Intern will support the operations and growth of MOF’s MLK Food Pantry which plays a crucial role in improving food access for communities impacted by incarceration and poverty. This internship is designed to give students hands-on experience in public health practice, while addressing key social determinants of health, including food insecurity, economic stability, and community wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the organization and distribution of fresh produce and pantry items.
• Support inventory management, restocking, and data tracking for pantry services.
• Engage with participants to provide resource referrals related to nutrition, health services, and employment.
• Collect and analyze feedback from food pantry participants to help assess community needs.
• Help coordinate community health education activities tied to food security and wellness.
• Collaborate with MOF staff and volunteers to maintain a welcoming and efficient pantry environment.
• Participate in community outreach to increase awareness of MOF’s food programs and services.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s-level program (Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, or related field).
• Interest in health equity, food justice, and community-driven solutions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Organized, reliable, and able to lift 15-20 lbs. occasionally during food distribution.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus but not required.

Supervision & Partnerships:

• Interns are supervised by MOF Program Staff.
• No stipends are available at this time.
• Formal partnerships with Texas Woman’s University (TWU), Dallas College, and Texas A&M University–Commerce.
• Previous interns have also come from UT Arlington, UNT Dallas, and Our Lady of the Lake University.
