What you’ll do (Job Responsibilities)

  • Support manufacturing and process engineering activities for circuit breaker and instrument transformer production lines.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes, production data, and cycle times to identify opportunities for productivity, quality, and efficiency improvements.
  • Develop and update Standard Work, work instructions, process documentation, and manufacturing process maps.
  • Participate in Lean and continuous improvement activities, including Kaizen, 5S, waste elimination, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Assist with PFMEA, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving activities to identify and reduce manufacturing risks.
  • Support time studies, line balancing, capacity analysis, and production routing activities.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and ergonomic improvements.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, and EHS teams to resolve manufacturing issues and implement improvements.
  • Present project results, recommendations, and data-driven findings to engineering and operations leadership.

What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated academic or project experience applying engineering, analytical, or problem-solving principles.
  • Ability to work on-site in a manufacturing environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work for the duration of the summer internship program.
  • Must have the ability to work in the US for an unlimited amount of time without sponsorship

What will make you stand out (Desired Qualifications)

  • You have a passion for manufacturing, continuous improvement, Lean, or operational excellence.
  • You are someone who brings curiosity, initiative, and a hands-on approach to solving problems.
  • You have experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • You have experience using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Minitab, or other data analysis tools.
  • You have experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • You have experience working with manufacturing processes, production environments, engineering projects, or technical teams.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to analyze data, communicate findings, and present recommendations.
  • You have participated in academic projects, internships, co-ops, student organizations, or other activities involving teamwork and technical problem solving.
  • You are comfortable working directly with operators and engineers on the shop floor/Gemba and learning from people with different technical backgrounds.
