Job Description Job Title: GIS Intern Posting Start Date: 10/8/26 Job Description: Compensation Data The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. The expected pay range for this position is between $18.00 per hour and $28.00 per hour. If you are hired at American Water your compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, candidate's program year, discipline, and degree.

Role This Intern experience will introduce you to exciting career opportunities in the water and wastewater field. The successful candidate will work with a team of GIS Technicians to support various types of engineering and construction projects and programs for the company’s water and wastewater systems. They will also learn firsthand how water utilities support communities and provide resiliency and sustainability.
Key Accountabilities Typical duties are diverse and designed around the education and experience level of the student. Assignments may include: Utilizing GIS to create and maintain spatial and attribute data following standard operating procedures and GIS editing best practices. Ability to learn and understand the basics of water and wastewater network structures and apply learned knowledge when creating and maintaining American Water GIS data.
Preparing presentation materials and map displays using PowerPoint and GIS Performing analysis utilizing software such as: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) ArcGIS Pro Assist in preparing and maintaining files, records, drawings, reports, maps, charts, budgets, and other data related to GIS and construction projects. Assist GIS Team in implementing and developing new applications to improve efficiency. Collecting asset locations using a GNSS receiver during field work.
Experience/Education Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, or related program. Travel
