Government & Infrastructure – Service Delivery Center– Consulting – Risk – Financial Risk, Financial Crime & Grants –Associate Analyst (Staff 1)

The opportunity

From strategy to execution, the Government & Infrastructure (G&I) practice of Ernst & Young LLP provides a full range of consulting and audit services to help our Federal, State, Local and Education clients implement new ideas to help achieve their mission outcomes. We deliver real change and measurable results through our diverse, high-performing teams, quality work at the highest professional standards, operational know-how from across our global organization, and creative and bold ideas that drive innovation. We enable our government clients to achieve their mission of protecting the nation and serving the people; increasing public safety; improving healthcare for our military, veterans and citizens; delivering essential public services; and helping those in need. EY is ready to help our government build a better working world.

The Service Delivery Center (SDC) is made up of high-performing, US-based resources who work closely with our experienced professionals to deliver project-based work and managed services to our government clients. The SDC is a core component of G&I. SDC Risk teams work hand in hand with client-site G&I Risk Consulting teams: consulting teams lead the client relationship and overall engagement, and SDC teams deliver repeatable, high-quality execution to agreed procedures, quality standards and service levels.

This role is part of the SDC Risk team aligned to our Financial Risk, Financial Crime & Grants team. The team carries out the recurring work behind government organizations' payment-integrity, fraud-prevention, financial crime compliance, financial-risk and grants programs at the federal, state and local level, including state-administered programs such as Medicaid, unemployment insurance and SNAP. This may include improper-payment testing and sampling; routine review of system-generated alerts within defined procedures; grants operations such as application intake support, recipient and subrecipient monitoring, and reporting on the EY Grants Accelerator platform or client grants systems; and recurring financial-risk and program-integrity metrics reporting.

In this position, you will support our clients' payment-integrity, fraud-prevention, financial crime compliance and grants initiatives by completing defined engagement tasks and managed-service activities under the guidance of experienced team members. You will receive training in established procedures, tools and quality standards while building foundational knowledge and hands-on experience. This is a delivery career path where you will have opportunities to build deep expertise and grow toward Analyst, Senior Analyst and other delivery or specialized roles.

Your key responsibilities

  • Complete assigned engagement tasks by following established procedures, timelines, quality standards and service-level requirements.
  • Support improper payment and payment-integrity testing by reviewing sampled transactions against defined testing attributes and documenting results using established workpaper standards.
  • Review system-generated alerts using defined criteria and procedures, document findings and escalate complex, unusual or potentially suspicious cases to senior team members.
  • Assist with pulling, organizing, cleaning and analyzing program and payment data using established queries, rules and analytics routines to identify anomalies and trends for review.
  • Support grants operations, including application intake, eligibility checks, recipient and subrecipient monitoring, financial tracking and reporting in the EY Grants Accelerator or client grants systems.
  • Compile process information, fraud risk inventories, control mappings and other documentation to support fraud risk assessments.
  • Help prepare and refresh recurring payment-integrity, grants and financial-risk metrics reports and dashboards.
  • Maintain complete and accurate evidence and documentation and protect sensitive data and personally identifiable information (PII) in accordance with engagement and client requirements.
  • Use EY-approved AI and automation tools appropriately to improve the accuracy, consistency and efficiency of repeatable tasks.
  • Track assigned work, communicate progress and raise questions, risks or issues promptly to senior team members and engagement leads.
  • Participate in training, coaching and team activities to build technical knowledge and delivery capabilities.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn new subject matter, systems and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, consistent work.
  • Ability to follow defined procedures, apply feedback and clearly communicate questions or issues, while exercising sound judgment with sensitive data, PII and firm-approved AI tools.
  • Effective teaming and collaboration with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and skill sets.
  • Foundational understanding of, or interest in learning, fraud prevention, payment integrity, financial risk and grants compliance concepts.
  • Foundational quantitative and data-analysis skills, including experience working with spreadsheets or structured data.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business or Data Analytics, Public Administration or a related field.
  • Up to one year of professional, internship or academic experience related to payment
