About the role
Graduate Research Administration Internship Program
The Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Sponsored Projects is seeking a current or recent grad student, or a postbaccalaureate intern, for an internship opportunity. The internship will provide experience in reviewing grant and contract terms, research compliance, research administration, and the chance to work on process improvements. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals supporting a world-class research organization.
The intern will gain hands-on experience reviewing research-related agreements, supporting compliance and audit-readiness activities, and exploring how AI and automation can improve administrative processes. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the intern will develop practical skills in contract review, risk assessment, organizational effectiveness, and technology-enabled process improvement. The internship will include some basic administrative work as well.
This opportunity may be particularly valuable for students pursuing degrees in law, business, public policy, information management, or related fields who are interested in the intersection of policy, operations, and emerging technologies.
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
- Strong written, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Interest in contracts, compliance, or research administration.
- Curiosity about AI, automation, and process improvement.
- The ability or interest to review complex legal documents and communicate findings clearly.
