Job Overview & Responsibilities

As an Industrial Hygienist Intern at United Launch Alliance, you'll gain hands-on experience and will have the opportunity to:

be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace hazards. You will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with federal and state health and safety regulations.

Industrial Hygienist Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct workplace hazard assessments and develop plans to control or eliminate hazards.
  • Conduct air monitoring, noise monitoring, and chemical exposure assessments.
  • Educate employees on health and safety issues and conduct regular safety audits.
  • Interpret and apply federal and state regulations related to industrial hygiene and environmental health and safety.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as engineering and maintenance, to implement solutions to health and safety issues.
  • Prepare reports, maintain records, and communicate findings to management and employees.

Interns may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the ULA community and with fellow interns!

Required Education

  • At minimum completed Sophomore year of college or university by the time of the summer internship assignment.
  • High School/GED

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum college GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale at the time of application; cumulative, no rounding. NOTE: An unofficial transcript is required if you are invited for an interview. We recommend you upload it to your profile when you apply.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and motorized vehicle transportation if assigned an internship in Alabama; For Denver, Colorado and Washington, DC, motorized transportation is recommended.

Role Specific Qualifications

  • Working towards bachelor's degree in industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and guidelines
  • Proficiency in using industrial hygiene monitoring equipment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Must have plans to be enrolled in classes during Fall Semester 2027.
  • Ability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer of 2027.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Effective presentation, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to complete an internship at any of the below ULA's locations:
  • Decatur, AL
