Position Summary

The Community Banking and Commercial Intern will provide assistance to the Commercial & CED Department with various recurring tasks as well as special projects.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Support market and prospect development by researching prospective businesses, organizations, and centers of influence and helping build and prioritize a market prospect pipeline.
  • Assist the Commercial team with prospect research, relationship preparation, market and industry insights, pipeline reporting, and analysis to support opportunity identification and follow-up.
  • Support CRA-eligible community development activities, including research, reporting, documentation, and community volunteering.
  • Assist with Foundation and sponsorship activities, including research, impact tracking, event support, community partnership opportunities, and use of the Kadince platform.
  • Help identify cross-line referral opportunities that may connect prospects and existing relationships with Retail, Treasury Management, Wealth, Mortgage, SBA, and other bank solutions.
  • Participate in team and client meetings, community events, and job-shadowing opportunities across Community Banking, CRA/CED, Commercial Banking, and other business lines.
  • Develop and present a capstone project highlighting market opportunities, prospecting insights, community impact, and recommendations for strengthening business development efforts in the Northern Region.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

Position Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • The internship will run for Summer of 2027 beginning mid-May and ending early August.
  • Able to work a 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Must reside local to Rockford, IL and report to the Rockford office.
  • Enrolled in a degree program with courses of study including business, finance, accounting, economics, marketing, or a related field at a college or university with at least 2 years completed.
  • Strong communication, organization, research, and analytical skills.
  • Professional, self-motivated, curious, and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience with banking, financial analysis, business development, customer service, community involvement, or data analysis is preferred.
  • Works well in team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn and use new software and programs.
