Job Summary
Dominion Energy Virginia's Electric Transmission (ET) department is seeking motivated, engaged engineering interns for the System Operations Center (SOC). The SOC is responsible for supporting DE's evolving transmission grid by balancing supply and demand on the Bulk Electric System to keep the lights on.
We are seeking interns in the following departments:
- SOC Operations Planning: You will assist with transmission reliability studies, performing contingency analyses, working on outage coordination, or supporting real-time operations.
- SOC Services: You will help support the operators who keep our grid balanced and operational 24/7. The SOC Services organization is made up of two primary teams:
- Operator Training & Development: Supports the development of system operators through initial training and continuing education programs, while maintaining training simulators used to prepare operators for real-world grid operations.
- Operational Support & Compliance: Supports emergency restoration planning, regulatory compliance activities, operational improvement initiatives, data and analytics solutions, and special projects that enhance tools, processes, and coordination across multiple System Operations teams.
These internships are on-site and will be located at either the Magnolia System Operations Center in Richmond, VA or the Innsbrook facility in Glen Allen, VA.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- Basic understanding of Electricity and Power Systems.
- Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignments.
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
Education Requirements
- Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in an engineering field (preferred fields include Electrical Engineering with a concentration in power systems or Computer Engineering) from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.
- Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
