About the role

Project Description:

The Marketing Department is responsible for all promotion and marketing of performance, visual arts and festival events at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. The Marketing and Communications intern will work on projects that help support and advance marketing and communication efforts to reach audiences and support the mission of the Trust.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and distribute press releases for the variety of programs and events.
  • Copywriting assignments related to public communication pieces.
  • Assist in archives and documentation of season communications materials.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of promotional projects.
  • Assist Marketing Managers with marketing plans and communication efforts on Trust presentation and festivals. This could include: Broadway; Dance; Music; Youth; Education; Bookish in the 'Burgh; Pittsburgh Humanities Festival; Children's Theater Festival; Three Rivers Arts Festival and more.
  • Create grassroots marketing opportunities with research and relationship building with community partners.
  • Maintain Cultural Trust brand and show presence throughout Cultural District.
  • Write event and festival specific content for blogs, website, emails, and other marketing communications.

Learning Objectives:

  • Effective Communication: Interns improve written and verbal communication skills by interacting with a wide constituency base, including internal staff, community partners, media and touring show representatives.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Interns will gain significant experience interacting with and working alongside staff on smaller tasks for their respective teams, as well as aiding with the larger collaborative.
  • Media-specific messaging: Interns adapt advertising language and campaign materials using specific messaging techniques for print, radio, and web channels.
  • Time management: Interns will actively prioritize and establish effective strategies to manage multiple deadlines.

Internship Requirements:

  • 10-15 weeks, 10-12 hours per week (maximum 150 hours per semester)
  • Rising junior, senior, or one year post undergraduate degree, or currently enrolled in a master's program.
