About the role

The Marketing Intern will support the execution of Atlanta Area Council’s marketing and communications strategy by assisting with content creation, social media management, and brand storytelling initiatives. This role works closely with the Marketing Director and communications staff to advance Scouting’s visibility and relevance across the Atlanta metro area.

The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, digital communications, and creative production, while building professional skills in writing, design, content strategy, and campaign support.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Social Media

  • Assist in creating and scheduling content across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others) using Hootsuite for department review and scheduling
  • Support the development of graphics, short-form video, and other digital assets; experience with Canva is a plus, along with Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools
  • Conduct interviews with Scouts and community members to write recurring human-interest stories for publication on the council website and email mailing lists
  • Help maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across channels
  • Monitor engagement and assist in responding to comments and messages as directed

Marketing Campaigns & Communications

  • Support planning and execution of marketing campaigns tied to recruitment, events, and fundraising
  • Assist in drafting email newsletters, blog posts, press releases for submission to local publications, and other council communications
  • Manage email communications and contact lists using Constant Contact, including drafting campaigns, adding new members to automated workflows, and updating list segments
  • Contribute to the development of print and digital collateral for programs and events
  • Compile regular analytics reports covering social media advertising campaigns, social media performance, website traffic, and Constant Contact metrics

Event & Program Promotion

  • Assist in promoting high-visibility council events through digital and traditional channels
  • Support on-site content capture at events, including photography and video
  • Help compile post-event recaps and performance reports

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the candidate will:

  • Understand how nonprofit organizations build and execute marketing and communications strategies
  • Gain hands-on experience in content creation, campaign management, and digital marketing
  • Develop skills in professional writing, graphic design, and brand storytelling
  • Learn how marketing supports recruitment, fundraising, and community engagement in a nonprofit context

Qualifications

  • Current college student or recent graduate (preferred fields: marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or related fields)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Interest in nonprofit work, youth development, or community impact
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic design tools; experience with Canva strongly preferred; Adobe Creative Suite or similar a plus

Schedule & Compensation

  • Pay: $15-$19 per hour
  • Hours: 20–30 hours per week (not to exceed 130 hours per month)
  • Schedule: Flexible; some evenings and weekends required for events
  • Duration: Summer and Fall internship (dates flexible based on organizational needs)

Work Environment

The intern will have a dedicated desk, computer, and necessary software at our Volunteer Service Center, located off I-75 North at 1800 Circle 75 Parkway SE, Atlanta, GA 30339.
