Pay Range: About the Opportunity: DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS IS OCTOBER 13, 2026, AT 11:59 P.M. The City of Irvine is seeking an intern to assist the Communications & Engagement Department with newsletters, social media, events, multimedia production, digital organization, and website design and content. The selected student or recent graduate will gain hands-on experience supporting the City’s efforts to share timely, accurate, and engaging information with residents, visitors, businesses, and community partners. *This internship is unpaid.* A minimum commitment of 15–20 hours per week for six months is required.

Your Impact: Assist with the preparation and distribution of citywide newsletters. Support social media platforms and scheduling tools. Assist with event-day and post-event production.

Post updates to the City’s intranet. Support special projects and community outreach efforts. Create and update resource materials.

Assist with photography and videography assignments, including drone projects. Tag and organize images in the City’s image database using PhotoShelter. Support publication layout and design.

Assist with website content updates and maintenance using Drupal. Assist with website redesign and improvements. Assist with content updates for the City App.

Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Completion of at least two years of college-level coursework in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, digital communications, or a related field.

Proficiency with workplace technology, including Microsoft Office Suite. Best Fit: Strong writing skills and familiarity with social media, newsletters, publications, and websites. Knowledge of and proficiency with Adobe products, including publication layout and design software.

Experience with photography and videography. Strong attention to detail and the ability to remain organized while managing multiple assignments and deadlines. Proficiency with workplace technology, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Sound judgment and a professional approach when interacting with City staff and the public. A current student or recent graduate studying communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, digital communications, or a related field.
