Job Title: Natural Areas Intern Job Category: Student Intern, NA Department/Group: Natural Science Location: JJC Main Campus JJC Natural Areas Level/Salary Range: Position Type: Part Time: 10-15 hours/week Job Description ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Natural Areas Management Intern will:
- Record and summarize data from deer management programs
- Participate in vegetation surveys
- Participate in the completion of IDNR deer management permit
- Help with grant research and write up
- Attend all NA Committee Meetings
- Help with monthly meeting management, for example: room reservations, sending out invites, etc.
- Record and write up minutes for the NA committee meetings, post to Microsoft Teams site
- Attend and help with the logistics of ecological restoration and ecological restoration workdays
- Maintain trail map availability within the JJC Natural Areas
- Walk the natural areas trails weekly. Collect data on various management aspects including but not limited to: Damage to Old Oaks (by beaver, etc.), invasive species, algal cover on lake, lake water chemistry, bird box activity, reptile population survey
- Help generate semester NA monitoring reports.
- Maintain a social media presence to promote the JJC natural areas.
- Meet with Natural Areas Committee Chair biweekly
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Current JJC full time student PREFERRED SKILLS/INTERESTS Experience with social media platforms Highly Organized Interest in Biology/Environmental Biology
