More about our team The Nurse Extern will work under the supervision of an RN, assist in assuring optimal patient care, while continuing as a Nursing Student in good standing. Provides nursing students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in an actual hospital setting.

This position will report to the department Director. How you’ll contribute A Nurse Extern, RNwho excels in this role: Performs clinical skills according to hospital policy and procedures Performs technical skills according to policy and procedure Maintains hospital and patient confidentiality Demonstrate concern for patient welfare by performing activities other than primary care needs Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately to patients, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures Responds promptly to patient requests by answering call lights, greeting patients in a cheerful positive manner, answering questions or fulfilling needs and alerting Registered Nurse as necessary. Tidies rooms, makes and changes bed linens, and ensures rooms are clean, neat, and orderly.

Assists with stocking items in rooms. Sets up oxygen flow meter, humidifier, and nasal cannula as requested. Performs courier duties to the lab and other hospital departments in order to deliver lab specimens (urine, stool, sputum), or delivery and retrieval of other requested items.

Transports patients to and from various areas as needed. Answers phone and greets patients and visitors. Performs other related duties as assigned that will facilitate achievement of quality patient care.

What we’re looking for Current student in first year of an Associate Degree Nursing Program or completion of 2 years of a Baccalaureate Program.

Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. BLS - to be obtained within 30 days Adheres to Hospital's Standards of Performance A graduate nurse can remain in the Extern Program until after an unsuccessful 2nd attempt of the NCLEX.
