Job Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Open Access Policy Deposit Assistant for OSULP at Oregon State University (OSU).
OSULP is seeking a student to help make research by OSU faculty freely available to readers worldwide. In this remote position, you will identify recently published articles by OSU faculty authors, evaluate current access to articles, request authors’ manuscripts under OSU’s Open Access Policy, and deposit articles to ScholarsArchive@OSU, the university’s open access repository.
All training will be provided upon hiring. Work schedule is 12 hours per week, with hours overlapping with supervisor’s schedule (M-F, 8:30-5:00) to accommodate weekly check-ins but otherwise flexible.
Position Duties
In this position you will:
- Compile and track articles by OSU faculty authors using online databases and MS Excel (Technology)
- Evaluate article records on publisher websites to determine whether each article meets deposit criteria (Critical Thinking)
- Communicate with OSU faculty using email templates to coordinate article deposits (Communication, Professionalism)
- Prepare digital files for deposit to ScholarsArchive@OSU using Adobe Acrobat Pro (Technology)
- Create new item records in ScholarsArchive@OSU, uploading files using web-based repository software and entering accurate descriptive information following provided guidance (Critical Thinking, Technology)
As skills develop over time, you will:
- Work with increased independence consulting multiple sources to resolve incomplete or conflicting information about authors and publications (Critical Thinking)
- Manage a recurring monthly workflow, keeping records current, providing clear updates, and meeting project deadlines while working remotely (Professionalism)
- Recommend improvements to procedures and documentation based on your experience (Critical Thinking, Communication)

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term\*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term\*
\*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (https://internationalservices.oregonstate.edu/) (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Required
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or comparable Google tools (Excel/Sheets, Word/Docs, Outlook/Gmail)
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and ask clarifying questions as needed
- Ability to work independently and manage time in a remote setting
- Strong attention to detail
- Clear written communication skills
Preferred
- Familiarity with library databases, scholarly articles, or academic publishing
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Interest in libraries, open access, or scholarly communication
Working Conditions/Schedule:
- Remote position; all work is expected to be done online using OSU accounts and systems
- Flexible hours, with weekly check-in with supervisor during standard business hours
