About the role

The San Francisco Silent Film Festival is a nonprofit organization dedicated to showcasing the artistry, diversity, and enduring cultural value of silent-era film with live musical accompaniment. We make it possible for contemporary audiences to see these exquisite films as they are meant to be seen: on the big screen, with carefully crafted scores performed live by accomplished musicians and ensembles!

Position Summary

Through this internship, the operations and publicity intern will be exposed to the inner workings of a small nonprofit arts organization and the process of programming, publicizing, coordinating and fundraising for a small film festival. The internship plays a key role in the success of our organization and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm to be part of our team.

In addition to experience gained, you will receive two passes good for admission to all programs at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival and two invitations to the opening night party.

Dates and Hours

Internships are part-time (15 - 20 hours/week). They begin in mid-spring and continue through the festival, which takes place July 31. Interns can earn up to six units of academic credit.

Responsibilities

Your internship will require the flexibility to work on many difference types of projects, which may include:

  • Researching and contacting new publicity and marketing outlets and contacts
  • Coordinating community outreach, via email and in person
  • Assisting with set up for special events, press conference, parties and festival
  • Processing membership contributions, maintaining contact and member database
  • Collecting and archiving online press and press clippings for the festival
  • Assisting with arrangements for festival guests and musicians
  • Assisting with development mailings and coordination of donor benefits

Requirements

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required; familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and databases is a big plus. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented and possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
