About the job

Program Description

Yale University Press offers competitive paid internship opportunities to learn about publishing in various business areas including Acquisitions Editorial, Art Workshop, Marketing/Publicity, New Business, Production, and Product Development and Sales.

By participating in the internship program, students observe the inner workings of a major university press and successful business. The value of this internship is to gain experience and to show a potential employer your skills and abilities to obtain future employment.

The Summer Publishing Internship Program requires a commitment of 30 hours a week for 10 consecutive weeks from June 1 to August 7, 2026. Applicants must commit to the full 10 weeks for consideration in the program. Each summer intern is paid at a rate of $16.94 per hour, the Connecticut minimum wage.

Internships may be in person, remote, or hybrid depending on the position and current Yale guidelines.

*Yale University Press encourages its staff to possess an understanding of the value of diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.*

Production Department

The Production Department is responsible for coordinating the production and manufacturing of each book: making a schedule; trafficking interior and cover files between designers, acquisitions editors, and manuscript editors; estimating costs; and communicating with typesetters and printers. The department summer intern will have an opportunity to learn about bookmaking behind the scenes and will aid in various duties, such as assisting the Senior Reprint Controller with processing invoices and ordering print-on-demand editions, working with spreadsheets to track metadata for backlist books that will be given new life as ebooks, and helping to update electronic archives of book jackets and covers. Attention to detail, experience with data entry, and knowledge of Microsoft Excel are preferred.
