Position: Production Intern - Dracula and Thrills & Chills - 2-3 positions available
Reports to: Artistic Director, Operations Director
Compensation: Unpaid Internship, may be eligible for college credit

Portland Ballet is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to enrich and strengthen Maine's communities through ballet performance, education, and experiences, and a vision that ballet can be for everybody.
Production Interns will support the Artistic and Production teams for the October 2026 productions of *Dracula* and *Thrills & Chills*. Interns provide reliable backstage, administrative, and operational support to ensure organized, smooth, and successful productions.
Both productions will rehearse at Portland Ballet's studios on Forest Ave in Portland, and the performances will take place at Westbrook Performing Arts Center.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Supporting backstage operations, including checking dancers in and out, working with volunteers, hanging signs, organizing props, set pieces, and costumes, and other duties as assigned;
- Attending studio and technical rehearsals (on an agreed-upon schedule);
- Posting and distributing flyers and postcards about the productions;
- Assisting with load-in and load-out at theaters, which includes truck loading and the movement of sets and costumes;
- Supporting front-of-house operations at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center, including lobby set-up and decoration, concessions, merchandise, ushering, and other support as needed;
- Helping to troubleshoot and respond to production needs in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude and public-facing demeanor;
- Providing support throughout unexpected production needs or schedule changes;
- Providing general administrative and organizational assistance to support production and operations of the organization.
Qualifications
- An interest in ballet, theater, live performance, or arts administration;
- Being reliable, punctual, and positive in professional demeanor;
- A willingness to assist with a variety of backstage, administrative, and operational tasks, as needed;
- Being comfortable in a fast-paced environment and adapting to unexpected changes;
- An ability to assist with moving and organizing production materials, including lifting and carrying items of varying weights with assistance, as needed;
- An ability to take direction and work independently, when needed;
- Having reliable transportation to events at Westbrook Performing Arts Center;
- Having prior experience in theater, events, production, or customer service is helpful, but not required.
