R&D Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)

Reports to: Sr. R&D Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

This internship is responsible for supporting the R&D functional engineering teams with general engineering tasks. These tasks involve working with the design, process, quality, and system engineering functions. They will be a self-starter, have a hands-on approach in performing their work duties, and be able to work independently.

This is a 3-month summer internship, onsite in Marquette, MI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work on cross-functional design teams to develop new product, address design, process, quality, or system issues, and maintain existing device master records (DMR) that include but not limited to product prints, quality inspection sheets, standard work instructions, Bill of Materials, manufacturing prints, process flows and process controls.
• Participate in design control and risk management activities.
• Learn aspects of surgical procedures in order to develop innovative solutions to solve/satisfy customer needs.
• Generate the creation of SLA prototype models to evaluate new design concepts.
• Evaluate product design for manufacturability (DFM) and suggest design process adjustments and quality improvements.
• Engage in the selection, development, and testing of tools, fixtures, machinery, and equipment used in manufacturing.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, engineering, process, and/or production teams to meet quality, productivity, and cost objectives.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

• Must be pursuing a degree with discipline in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering
• Familiar with Solid Modeling, GD&T and CAD systems
• Basic understanding of design or process control per ISO 13485
• Basic understanding of project management is preferred but not required
• Experience using Microsoft Office Software Tools

Schedule & Internship Details

• Full-time schedule available during summer break (up to 40 hours per week).
