Sales and Marketing Internship

THE MISSION

At Yellow Scene Magazine (YS), we are known for our award-winning journalism and design. In fact, we just won Best Ad Agency and Best Overall Excellence at the Colorado Press Association's annual convention this year.

While we are very proud of our accomplishments since 2001, including our strict adherence to high journalism and design standards, those achievements came from a LOT of hard work from a team that believes deeply in our mission. People who understand that journalism has a direct impact on democracy. They understand that local journalism is getting more scarce thanks to corporate conglomeration and know that communities suffer from news deserts without local resources such as YS.

If that sounds like a big mission for a sales and marketing intern, ask yourself, how many sales and marketing roles serve a public good? At YS, this role does more than learn how to close business; our team members are part of a greater mission.

THE GIG

The role at YS is fun, exciting, and never dull. There are also days when it's a grind. For 23 years, we have had a monthly deadline. Deadline is a demanding week, and it never goes away. This is not a desk job where you spend the day posting on social media. It is a role where you learn everything from the top to bottom about running a business, how to acquire new business, and how to defend democracy through journalism.

This internship offers the chance to dive into the business operations of media journalism, learn what makes agency-quality design, and master the hardest part: the Art of Talking to People. You'll have a chance to work with the sales and administrative departments on work such as sales, design, copywriting, marketing strategies, daily operations, distribution, marketing, website, social media, and more.

THE PAY

This is an unpaid internship to start but as you grow your skills, opportunities to grow both the hourly and commission earnings are available.

THE ORG

Yellow Scene is the voice of Boulder County and the North Metro region, providing exhaustive coverage of local culture, arts, entertainment, and compelling news stories for the active lifestyle of the area. Yellow Scene publishes and distributes 50,000 copies monthly and is the largest circulated publication serving the communities of the Boulder County and North Metro region. YS in-house design firm, Yellow House, provides agency-quality design and marketing services to our customers.
