Skilled Trades Center Student Worker

Location:Yavapai College – Verde Valley Campus, Clarkdale, AZ Position:Student Worker Hours:Up to 19 hours per week, in person

Position Summary

The Skilled Trades Center Student Worker provides hands-on support to instructors and helps maintain safe, clean, organized, and well-prepared lab environments. This position is ideal for a student interested in skilled trades, hands-on learning, and working in a technical training environment.

Essential Duties

• Assist Skilled Trades Center instructors with preparing tools, equipment, and materials for hands-on labs.
• Set up and clean up lab spaces before and after classes.
• Perform routine and deep cleaning of lab areas, workstations, tools, and equipment.
• Organize, inventory, and properly store tools, equipment, and instructional materials.
• Assist instructors during lab classes as directed.
• Help monitor and support safe lab practices and ensure required safety precautions are followed.
• Report damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment and supplies to instructors.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current Yavapai College student in good standing.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable, organized, and willing to perform hands-on tasks.
• Interest in or familiarity with skilled trades, tools, equipment, or technical lab environments preferred.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and instructor directions.

Minimum Expectations and Requirements: This is a Federal Work Study Student Employment Position

• Must be enrolled in 6 credits
• Must have a completed FAFSA application on file
• All hiring documents must be completed prior to first work shift, including acceptable documentation for the I-9 Form.
• Conduct campus tours for new students, schools, classes, and guests
• Represent Yavapai College during college events
• Support prospective students by answering questions and providing resources
• Develop an expanded knowledge of Yavapai College
• Assist with duties and tasks related to events put on by various YC departments
• Work with diverse populations on and off campus
• Attend weekly staff meeting and required training
• Assist with variety of office related tasks
• Possess the following qualities: leadership, dependability, initiative, enthusiasm, discipline and willingness to grow both personally and professionally
• Strong speaking skills

Work Environment

This is anin-person positionlocated in the Skilled Trades Center on Yavapai College's Verde Valley Campus in Clarkdale. The position involves frequent standing, walking, lifting and moving equipment and supplies, and working in active hands-on lab environments.

The start date, to occur no sooner than July 1st of the current aid year, of this position will be determined by the hiring supervisor after an applicant is hired.  This position has a standard end of assignment date of June 30th of the current aid year.  Assignment may end sooner or be extended depending FWS eligibility, availability and/or department need.
