Description:
The Special Investigations Section (SIS) of the Arizona Attorney General's Office provides investigative support to law enforcement and consumer protection services of the Arizona Attorney General's Office, as well as law enforcement agencies across the state of Arizona. SIS provides expertise in specialized areas of law covered under the Attorney General's statutory criminal jurisdiction, which is not usually available at other law enforcement agencies.
Applicants will be highly motivated upperclassmen (Juniors and Seniors) at local Universities or other Phoenix area colleges, and enrolled in law enforcement or related studies.
These unpaid internships will provide an excellent opportunity to work with experienced investigators involved in various types of criminal investigations and complaint intake. Investigations may involve:
- White collar crimes;
- Political corruption;
- Money laundering;
- Consumer fraud;
- Medical fraud; and
- Vulnerable adult abuse.
Internship Period: Two Semesters
Hours: 15-20 hours per week.
These positions are non-paid. If the intern seeks University credit, the number of hours must meet the minimum established by the University. Please speak with your academic advisor.
REQUIREMENTS AND APPLICATION INFORMATION:
- This internship is offered to applicants currently enrolled in a university or college and pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensics, Psychology or other relevant course of study.
- Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Office, Word and PowerPoint
- The position requires good writing, communication, computer skills, as well as the ability to work both in a team setting and independently.
- The ability to handle research assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Successfully pass a criminal background check and submit to an oral interview.
- All accepted interns must complete a training/orientation program and sign a letter of confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the investigations they will be involved with.
- Availability to work 15-20 hours per week between 8:00AM-5:00PM, Monday through Friday.
- Internship Period: Two Semesters
Applicants under serious consideration will be required to:
- Submit to an oral panel interview.
- Successfully pass a criminal background check prior to acceptance into the program.
- Be fingerprinted by Department of Public Safety (DPS) and pass a criminal background check.
- An internship offer cannot be tendered until the candidate has successfully passed the initial background check. Not every applicant will be accepted.
- All accepted interns must complete a training/orientation program and sign a letter of confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the investigations they will be involved with.
