About the role
The Associate Director of the Purple Haze works directly alongside the Director to grow, organize, and strengthen the Purple Haze as SFA's premier student organization supporting Lumberjack Athletics. The Associate Director helps oversee the Purple Haze Executive Board, coordinates student engagement initiatives, assists with gameday operations, and helps turn the organization's ideas into action. This position serves as a key leader within the organization and steps in for the Director when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. No direct experience is required.
Training and instruction will be provided. The ideal Associate Director is a reliable, energetic, organized, and team-oriented SFA student who enjoys working with people and creating memorable experiences. This person should be willing to take initiative, bring new ideas to the table, and do the behind-the-scenes work necessary to make the Purple Haze successful.
Previous leadership, marketing, event planning, social media, or athletics experience is preferred but not required. A successful Associate Director will: Help the Director effectively manage the Purple Haze. Keep Executive Board projects organized and moving forward.
Increase student participation at athletic events. Help establish new Purple Haze traditions and experiences. Build strong relationships across the student body.
Be someone the Director, Executive Board, and SFA Athletics staff can rely on. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assists the Director with the day-to-day operations of the Purple Haze. Helps lead and coordinate the Purple Haze Executive Board.
Assists with setting organizational goals and developing semester plans. Helps delegate responsibilities and ensure projects are completed on time. Serves as the Director's primary support and second-in-command.
Represents the Purple Haze at meetings and events when the Director is unavailable. Assists with planning and executing Purple Haze gameday experiences Coordinates student section activities, promotions, giveaways, and contests Helps organize student arrivals and ensure the section is engaged throughout games. Works with SFA Athletics staff to identify opportunities to improve the student experience.
Helps create and maintain Purple Haze traditions, chants, and gameday initiatives. Helps recruit new Purple Haze members throughout the year. Develops creative ways to encourage students to attend athletic events.
Builds relationships with student organizations, residence halls, Greek organizations, and campus groups. Helps organize student-only events, competitions, and activities outside of gamedays. Encourages consistent participation across multiple SFA sports.
Assists with Purple Haze promotional campaigns and social media content. Helps promote upcoming games, events, giveaways, and membership opportunities. Contributes ideas for new campaigns, trends, and student-focused content.
Helps maintain a consistent Purple Haze brand and voice. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to understand and follow instructions. A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
