About the role
Student Gallery Teachers
Second- and third-year undergraduate students and graduate students in all majors at the University of Georgia train as museum educators in this year-long paid program. First, they learn about the museum, its collection and its exhibitions as well as different approaches to gallery teaching. Then they work alongside museum staff and community docents to lead interactive and engaging tours for pre-K – 12 school groups. Student gallery teachers also assist with other museum programs that serve youth and family audiences.
Through workshops, field trips, behind-the-scenes tours and weekly training sessions, they develop valuable teaching, research and program evaluation skills. They also learn about art and object-based teaching and gain valuable experience working in a museum setting.
