Summer Teaching Fellow

The Generation Teach Summer Teaching Fellowship is a summer fellowship for high school and undergraduate students who want to lead real classrooms, develop transferable leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact on students.

Who You Are

You may be a strong fit if you:

• Are a high school junior (11th grade) or older, or an undergraduate student
• Want to spend your summer supporting students and communities
• Are interested in leadership, education, or professional skill-building
• Are eager to receive coaching, feedback, and mentorship

No prior teaching experience is required. Teaching Fellows come from a wide range of academic backgrounds—only 25% major or minor in education.

Where & When You Will Teach

• Sacramento, California: May 26 - July 17
• Aurora, Colorado: June 4 – July 17
• Denver, Colorado: June 10 – July 24
• Howard County, Maryland: June 17 – July 31
• Massachusetts and Rhode Island: June 24 – August 7

Teaching Fellows teach for five weeks in a Generation Teach STEAM Academy.

What You Will Receive

Training & Coaching

• Pre-summer preparation to build foundational skills
• Seven days of in-person training before students arrive
• Daily feedback and instructional coaching throughout the summer

Scholarship & Academic Credit

• A taxable cash scholarship to support participation: • CA: $3,500 • CO, MD, MA, RI: $3,000
• Eligibility to earn three undergraduate credit hours through the University of Colorado Denver at a reduced cost

Professional & Career Support

• Access to letters of recommendation
• Personal introductions to partner organizations for those interested in teaching
• A network of peers, mentors, and leaders that extends beyond the summer

Prepare

Complete pre-summer learning and in-person training to feel confident leading a classroom on day one.

Teach

Teach in a Generation Teach STEAM Academy., leading academic and enrichment classes.

Receive regular feedback, collaborate with peers, and reflect on your practice as you build transferable leadership and professional skills.

Application Information

Deadline

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with monthly deadlines on the 15th of each month beginning December 15. Applicants receive a decision within four weeks of submission.

Eligibility

• Must be a high school junior (11th grade) or older
• If you have not completed a full year of college, you must teach in the region where you currently live
• Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient

Do I need experience?

No. Teaching Fellows come from a wide range of majors and backgrounds. Training focuses on:

• Building inclusive classroom communities
• Developing instructional strategies
• Practicing teaching and classroom leadership
• Collaborating with peers and coaches

What will I teach?

Teaching Fellows teach or co-teach:

• Academic classes in engineering, law, math, or reading
• Enrichment and social-emotional learning classes

Generation Teach provides engaging curricula and instructional guidance.
