About the role
Alta Genetics is seeking a motivated, curious student to join the Technical Marketing Team for an immersive, Summer 2027 internship spanning dairy genetics, technical marketing, consultative sales, and global events. The intern will work alongside Alta team members to support strategic projects while developing practical skills in genetic selection, dairy consulting, and customer communication.
This internship is designed for a student who wants to understand how genetics, reproduction, on-farm decision-making, consultative sales, and customer education come together to create measurable value for progressive dairy businesses.
Location: Based in Madison, Wisconsin with travel throughout the Midwest Term:Summer 2027 Compensation:Paid internship
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and coordinating Alta’s global Showcase Tour for dairy producers, distributors, prospects, customers, and industry partners from around the world, including cattle selection and hands-on preparation.
- Build working knowledge of genomic evaluations, genetic indexes, and the factors that influence confidence in genetic information, and support Alta’s genetic proof process.
- Gain exposure to how genetic strategies may differ across dairy management systems and global markets.
- Shadow experienced Alta sales consultants and learn how successful representatives ask questions, analyze information, communicate value, and develop customized recommendations.
- Prepare a clear, professional presentation based on actual observations, interviews, and data analysis to deliver the final recommendations to Alta leaders, consultants, and farm management.
- Collaborate across marketing, genetics, technical services, and sales while managing deadlines and project details.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Dairy Science, Animal Science, or Agricultural Business, and interest in a career involving dairy genetics, consulting, technical marketing, reproductive services, product development, or sales.
- Demonstrated interest and knowledge of the dairy industry and dairy cattle genetics.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to organize details, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn, ask thoughtful questions, receive feedback, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Comfort working in dairy farm environments and willingness to travel as internship activities require.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
