Job Description:
The Technical Writing internship at Miller Electric is designed to give a student the hands-on exposure to the tools and processes of this profession.
Essential Functions
- Create and update owner's manuals and other technical documentation
- Work with engineers and subject matter experts to understand a product or procedure
- Optimize documents for print and electronic publication
- Create and modify technical illustrations
- Prepare markups for translation and participate in a translation project with our vendor
- Manage document data for upload and reuse to serve our internal and external customers
Qualifications
- Student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Technical or Professional Writing, English, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; be prepared to supply a writing sample
- Proficient in a Windows and Microsoft environment
- Familiarity with desktop publishing, structured authoring (XML), and technical illustration software preferred
- Able to work independently, prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and be proactive in suggesting process improvements
- Familiarity with welding and basic electricity preferred, but not required
