About the role
Overview We have an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Engineer Intern at our Roanoke Cement Plant in Troutville, VA. This position will report directly to the Electrical Maintenance Manager. The Internship will consist of the following: Responsibilities Complete Safety training based on MSHA requirements for cement plant.
Obtain, correlate and analyze technical information. Develop procedures to troubleshoot and calibrate sensors for plant equipment. Review thermal imaging strategy for the electrical department and define gaps to create new program partnering with the management team.
Maintain the electrical department library (i.e. documenting and scanning electrical drawings). Maintain the equipment list for low voltage motors and transformers. Monitor methods and equipment with a view on improving performance and efficiency.
Assist in developing and implementing departmental plans. Assist in identifying courses of action to improve safety and operational efficiencies. Assist with reporting, planning, and audits.
Clearly articulate ideas or issues to management.
Qualifications actively pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial and Systems Engineering. Ability to be a self-starter, be self-directed, and take initiative to move forward with ideas; must be able to work with and influence others. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with professional decorum.
Strong attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities to anticipate issues and provide solutions. Ability to work effectively and independently in a team environment. Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) Must have basic project management skills.
Prior internship or Co-op experience in heavy industry beneficial. Positive attitude to achieve goals and deliver results. Availability to commit to a minimum of 35 hours per week.
