Marymount School is seeking a Varsity Fencing Coach to lead and support our student-athletes during the winter season. The ideal candidate will build strong professional relationships with student-athletes, families, and colleagues while fostering a positive, inclusive, enthusiastic, and collaborative team environment. The coach should have a strong understanding of fencing skills and strategy, excellent organizational and communication skills, keen attention to detail, and a commitment to Marymount’s mission and values.

Practices generally take place on weekdays (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays), with varying times between 3:00 and 6:30 p.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend and actively participate in all practices and competitions.
  • Oversee daily team logistics, including practice and competition travel.
  • Attend required athletic and school meetings and events.
  • Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with assistant coaches.
  • Manage coaching responsibilities, including attendance, roster management, competition-day operations, score reporting, uniform distribution and collection, and team-specific events.
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with student-athletes, families, coaches, and school administrators.
  • Foster a team culture that emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, commitment, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Uphold the highest professional and ethical standards and adhere to Marymount’s mission, AAIS league guidelines, and NYSAIS regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of relevant coaching experience; previous high school and/or college coaching or playing experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fencing skills, strategy, and competition.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, colleagues, and school administrators.
  • CPR/AED certification and completion of all required school paperwork.
