About the job

Company Description

VNFF began in 1970 with a practical, sustainability led insight: recycling waste silk yarn to make silk spinning more efficient. From those early roots, the company grew from a yarn trading business into a Government Recognized Export House and one of India’s largest exporters of silk beddings. Over the decades, VNFF expanded into other natural fibers: being one of the pioneers of producing Linen in India and the establishing the domestic market for it. In this journey, we built deep manufacturing capabilities across spinning, weaving, processing, and finished garments, with facilities in Panvel, Vapi, Bhiwandi, and Bangalore.

Today, VNFF is a 55-year-old, vertically integrated textile manufacturer with 850+ employees across 5 production units, exporting to 20+ countries and recognized as one of India’s leading weavers and exporters of linen fabrics and scarves. The company is now run by its third-generation leadership team who are asking a new set of questions: how can VNFF’s manufacturing depth and sustainability-first DNA be used to build something consumer-facing? This project sits at that inflection point, giving interns the chance to help shape VNFF’s next chapter.

Project Description

Overview: For over 50 years, we’ve built VNFF as a fully integrated textile manufacturer supplying leading global brands. Now, we’re taking on a new challenge: building a consumer brand at the intersection of textiles and skincare. Worsening air quality, high UV exposure, and growing health awareness are making skincare a daily necessity in India rather than a discretionary purchase. With rising disposable income and stronger consumption behavior, consumers are seeking preventive, lifestyle-integrated solutions. We aim to meet this demand by using textiles—products people wear and use daily—as a new platform for skincare.

While skincare is growing rapidly in India due to concerns around UV, pollution, and preventive wellness, most current solutions are topical and disposable. We’re developing functional textiles—leveraging our in-house expertise in natural fibers, finishing, and coatings—so garments themselves provide passive, continuous skin protection. This marks our shift from behind-the-scenes manufacturing to category creation, using rare manufacturing depth to build an India-launched, globally scalable brand.

Tasks: 1) Consumer & Category Discovery:

  • 1a. Research Indian skincare and wellness consumer behavior, with focus on UV exposure, pollution, sleep, and daily routines
  • 1b. Identify unmet needs and white spaces between topical skincare products and functional textiles
  • 1c. Benchmark relevant Indian and global analogs across beauty, wellness, and lifestyle categories

2) Product Strategy & Definition:

  • 2a. Identify product opportunities where VNFF’s textile capabilities can deliver measurable skin or wellness benefits
  • 2b. Translate in-house manufacturing strengths (natural fibers, finishing, coatings, garmenting) into consumer-ready product concepts
  • 2c. Define 3–5 hero products, including use case, target consumer, functional benefit, format, and indicative pricing

3) Brand Positioning & Go-to-Market Strategy:

  • 3a. Develop brand positioning and value proposition for a new “skincare through textiles” category
  • 3b. Shape messaging and storytelling that is credible, functional, and easy for consumers to understand
  • 3c. Outline an India-first launch strategy, including consumer education and early traction mechanisms

4) Channel Strategy & Launch Planning:

  • 4a. Evaluate distribution channels including D2C, beauty marketplaces (e.g., Nykaa, Tira), and selective offline formats
  • 4b. Recommend channel sequencing, pricing logic, and initial launch mix
  • 4c. Assess pathways for future international expansion leveraging VNFF’s export orientation

5) Execution Roadmap & Leadership Deliverables:

  • 5a. Build a 6–12 month execution roadmap with milestones, dependencies, and decision points
  • 5b. Identify key roles and capabilities required to launch the brand

Project Outcomes: The primary deliverable will be a launch blueprint for VNFF’s first skincare-textile brand. This includes:

  • (1) a product strategy deck outlining 3–5 launch-ready hero products with defined use cases and functional benefits;
  • (2) a brand and go-to-market plan covering positioning, messaging, and India-first launch logic;
  • (3) a channel strategy recommending where and how to sell initially; and
  • (4) a 6–12 month execution roadmap.
