Civic Education Internship

Focused on Civic Education Programming and Resources.

• Civic education interns will work with USCHS Education staff to support *Capitol Civics* and the *We the People* bus tours. *Capitol Civics* aims to educate students and all Americans on Article I of the U.S. Constitution. This program teaches the purpose and role of Congress in American government using historic examples from the people's branch. The *We the People* bus tour takes DC Title I students on a one-day educational experience of the capital city.
• Civic education interns will work with USCHS staff to research primary sources for *Capitol Civics* lesson plans, help create *Capitol Civics* themed promotional materials, and assist in coordinating logistics for the *We the People* bus tours.
• This internship will provide an opportunity to learn how to design effective Civics and U.S. History lesson plans for differing pedagogical approaches.

Program Details:

The U.S. Capitol Historical Society (USCHS) is chartered by Congress in part "to foster and increase an informed patriotism of the land in the study of this living memorial to the founders of this Nation and the continuing thread of principles as exemplified by their successors." Primarily geared towards undergraduate students, USCHS Interns work in the Society's offices a minimum of 20 hours per week. Specific work schedules are flexible to accommodate outside academic and work commitments. Interns may receive a monthly stipend.

Fall Session – September through December

Applications are accepted May 1 through July 1.

Spring Session – January through April

Applications are accepted September 1 through November 1.

Summer Session – May through August

Applications are accepted January 1 through March 1.
