Community Impact Internship

Position Summary

The Community Impact Intern will support the execution of Atlanta Area Council’s Community Impact Strategy by assisting with partnership development, community engagement, and strategic storytelling initiatives. This role works closely with the Director of Development and leadership staff to advance Scouting’s position as a trusted community partner across Atlanta.

The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in nonprofit development, community relations, and civic engagement, while building professional skills in communication, partnership management, and program support.

Key Responsibilities

Community Partnerships & Engagement

• Assist in identifying, researching, and tracking prospective community partners across education, faith-based, civic, and nonprofit sectors
• Support outreach efforts to organizations such as schools, churches, civic groups, and community-based nonprofits
• Help coordinate meetings, prepare briefing materials, and maintain partnership records
• Attend community meetings, events, and stakeholder engagements alongside staff

Program & Event Support

• · Assist in planning and execution of high-visibility initiatives and events.
• Support event logistics including registration, materials preparation, and on-site coordination as needed.
• Help capture event outcomes, attendance, and community impact data

Strategic Storytelling & Communications

• Collect and draft youth impact stories highlighting leadership development and community outcomes
• Assist in developing social media content, newsletters, and community-facing communications
• Support media outreach efforts and help document program success through photos, videos, and written content

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the candidate will:

• Understand how nonprofit organizations build and sustain community partnerships
• Gain experience in civic engagement and stakeholder communication
• Develop skills in professional writing, storytelling, and public relations
• Learn the fundamentals of fundraising, development strategy, and community impact measurement

Qualifications

• Current college student or recent graduate (preferred fields: nonprofit management, communications, public relations, business, education, or related fields)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects
• Interest in community engagement, youth development, or nonprofit work
• Comfortable interacting with diverse community stakeholders

Schedule & Compensation

• Pay: $19-$22 per hour
• Hours: 20–30 hours per week (not to exceed 130 hours per month)
• Schedule: Flexible; some evenings and weekends required for events
• Duration: Summer and Fall internship (dates flexible based on organizational needs)

Work Environment

• Hybrid (office, community-based meetings, and events across the Atlanta area)
