Summary

As a James Hardie intern, you will gain hands-on experience in your chosen field while contributing to meaningful projects that drive business results. Our 12-week paid internship program is designed to provide real-world industry exposure, strengthen your professional and technical skills, and help prepare you for a successful career. Throughout the program, you will collaborate with experienced professionals, build valuable relationships across the organization, and take on work that makes a measurable impact. You will also have access to mentoring opportunities and professional development resources to support your growth and career aspirations.

Internship Objective

Support the finishing line engineer, finishing line coordinator, and maintenance team in developing engineering projects that improve operational reliability and efficiency. The intern will learn the finishing process and material flow, analyze line performance, and develop equipment or automation improvement concepts with supporting documentation.

By the end of the internship, the intern will:

• Develop a practical understanding of finishing operations, material flow, and mechanical or electromechanical systems.
• Analyze line efficiency, speed, delay, and product quality and communicate findings on a regular cadence.
• Develop well-supported modification or design proposals with documented analysis, testing, scope, and budget considerations.

What You’ll Do:

Process and Performance Analysis

• Learn the finishing process and material flow.
• Analyze line efficiency, speed, delay, and product quality.
• Complete problem analysis or root-cause analysis for assigned technical needs.

Equipment and Automation Improvement

• Collaborate with the line engineer to develop modifications or new equipment and automation concepts.
• Create models, drawings, design concepts, and preliminary fabrication or implementation plans as applicable.
• Work across Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Automation, and other departments to advance the project.

Documentation and Presentation

• Develop documentation and procedures that support integration of proposed modifications.
• Provide biweekly progress presentations.
• Deliver a final report and presentation covering the problem statement, analysis, experiments or trials, design documentation, and budgetary estimates or proposals.

What You’ll Bring:

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in a relevant discipline at an accredited university, with an anticipated graduation between December 2027 and May 2029 (rising senior or rising junior).
• Strong academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Available to work full-time for 12 weeks during summer 2027.
• Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Skills

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Data analysis and creative problem-solving skills.
• Design and CAD capability.
• Basic understanding of automation concepts.
• Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, teamwork, and resourcefulness.

What You’ll Receive:

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $20 to $25 per hour. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and may change over time.
