About the job
Internship Opportunities
Friends of Ballona Wetlands provides an educational environment in which to learn about ecology, restoration, community outreach, and childhood education, as well as opportunities to complete one or more projects that will further their educational experiences. Interns provide Friends of Ballona Wetlands with their time and research abilities and help us continue to grow and thrive as an organization!
Environmental Education
Educate the next generation of nature lovers and environmentalists! Interns learn about the wetlands and grade-specific curriculum during training, then help guide K-12 field trips, visit schools for interactive presentations, and lead fun activities during summer camp.
- Who can apply for an internship?
Anyone 16 years old and up! Internships aren’t just for students. If you’d like to gain experience in our restoration, education, or science programs, a Ballona Internship might be right for you.
- Do your internships count for school credit?
Check with your school to make sure an internship with a non-profit will count toward your degree. We are happy to work with you on your school’s intern requirements, hours verification, and paperwork in order to receive credit.
- Are internships paid or unpaid?
Most of our internships are unpaid but can receive school credit. Paid internships will be clearly labeled.
- What are the hours requirements?
Most internships require at least 60 hours. This varies based on intern position, but the minimum is typically 3 hours/day once a week. Shifts are varied and there is flexibility to fit your schedule.
- What are the benefits?
You’ll gain valuable experience applicable to your studies or work, opportunities for leadership, and a unique inside look at the last coastal wetland in Los Angeles County.
