OPS Administrative Assistant I (Seasonal – 37971418) State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection This position is located in White Springs, FL Position Overview and Responsibilities: Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park is looking for a highly motivates, dependable, and enthusiastic team player to join their team as an OPS Events Staff Support employee. This is a unique opportunity to work across Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, and Big Shoals State Park and be involved in a wide variety of projects and experiences. This position supports the development and implementation of special events, festivals, visitor services, interpretive and recreational programs, research and education, resource management, and event volunteer coordination.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys variety and wants to be part of making things happen. You might help coordinate a large-scale festival, work with volunteers, answer visitor questions, research an important piece of history, develop an interpretive display, assist with a children’s program, track an event budget, or help turn a new program idea into reality. This position also provides valuable experience in the behind-the-scenes work that makes successful park programs possible, including data management, customer service, purchasing, soliciting bids, budget tracking, research, contracts and permits, interpretive materials, event archives, and public information.

The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator and writer who can work independently and as part of a team, establish priorities, solve problems, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines. Creativity, initiative, flexibility, and a willingness to jump in and help wherever needed are essential. This is an OPS position for up to 28hrs per week.

This position is seasonal and runs from October through May. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: KNOWLEDGE OF: Florida’s natural and cultural resources Basic arithmetic Good public relations SKILLED IN: Preparing and maintaining accurate reports and records Identifying and resolving problems Following verbal and written instructions Creating, tracking and maintaining budgets Handling money and accurately balance cash receipts Microsoft Office applications ABILITY TO: Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Develop and conduct engaging interpretive programs Understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, directives, and procedures Understand and work with complex technical and administrative information Work independently while also contributing effectively to a team Establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, volunteers, partners, agencies, and the public Respond to visitor’s questions and concerns in a tactful, efficient, and courteous manner Minimum Qualifications: Valid Driver’s License Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays *Position of Special Trust Requirement:* This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

The museum features exhibits about Foster’s most famous songs, and his music can be heard emanating from the park’s 97-bell carillon throughout the day.

Every Memorial Day weekend, the park hosts the Florida Folk Festival. Other events include concerts, weekend retreats, a regional quilt show, holiday light display and in antiques tractor show. The
