Spend your summer gaining hands-on experience, building professional skills, and making a difference in communities across Alabama. As an Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) intern, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that support the people and communities we serve. Internships are available across a variety of program areas, including: Human Sciences Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources 4-H Youth Development Community Resource Development Each internship is designed around a real project, process, or training tool that you will help develop, improve, or bring to life.
Your work can make a lasting impact by creating resources or solutions that can continue to be used by your host county or program area after your internship ends. During your internship, you’ll have the opportunity to: Gain real-world experience in your field of interest Work alongside Extension professionals and university experts Build your professional network and develop career-ready skills Take ownership of a project with a tangible outcome See firsthand how research and education can create positive change in communities
Responsibilities ACES Field Internships are personalized to the student based on their major and interests, and potential job duties include: Helping coordinate educational events and programs Participation in meetings on local issues Assisting with teaching youth or community educational programs Preparing for events and activities by researching, gathering materials, getting external support, and contacting participants Conducting field research, preparation of materials and translation of data for training of community members and extension personnel
Qualifications Must be a currently enrolled student at Auburn University Minimum GPA of 2.8 Sophomore year or above (internship is available to graduate students as well) At least 19 years old Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation Excellent interpersonal, written, listening and presenting communication skills Ability to problem solve independently Ability to establish positive relationships with customers and coworkers Ability to interact effectively with a variety of people in the workplace All interns must enroll in classes for the Fall 2027 semester prior to hire to maintain a "currently enrolled" student status. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrate active listening skills; solicits, listens, and acts on input from others Establish positive relationships with customers and coworkers Interact effectively with a variety of people in the workplace Collaborate with mentor to complete projects in alignment with county needs Evidence of success in being a self-starter Strong communication skills — writing, listening, public speaking and presenting Computer literacy as demonstrated by evidence of technology use in an educational setting, including, but not limited to program development and delivery, and social media Willingness and ability to travel within the assigned county and periodically participate in evening and weekend programs and activities Why Work at Auburn?
