About the role

Introduction

NourishCap.com creates educational, documentary, scientific, and artistic shows about health, mind, and mushrooms. Our mission is to expand public embrace of culinary, functional, and practical mushrooms by creating educational content and offering vetted products. By interning with us, you get practical training and real-world projects related to applying your major.

Over the years, we have trained hundreds of interns! We took the time to write this thorough internship description because it answers most of the questions people have and is a preview to how we provide much information throughout each internship. Read this entire description closely and take detailed notes because we quiz applicants about it during the interview process.

Project-based Learning: Interns on this team focus on coding that supports our business-to-consumer (B2C) offerings, building and maintaining the systems, tools, and content pipelines that help individual customers discover and enjoy our products. Interns on this team will participate in at least one main project, and optionally, several smaller projects to gain various software development experiences. This internship prioritizes high autonomy and AI-assisted workflow integration: you will actively manage, orchestrate, and debug code and content from AI tools (vibe code), as well as make tools that use AI (for accomplishing analysis or synthesizing outputs). You will also learn about our company's subject matter, proofreading, documentation, and a spectrum of professional topics. Coding has only ever been a portion of the duties of a programmer, this is even more the case today.

The main project for this internship is our marketing content pipeline: the systems and tools we use to research, produce, and publish trustworthy and entertaining content about mushrooms, such as our "Mushroom of the Week" articles and the social media posts that accompany them. We balance the use of AI tools with the need for human oversight; our interns often contribute to process improvement and operate with guidance and feedback from experienced management. In addition to JavaScript, we use code management tools like Git and web platforms like GoHighLevel; internships may involve some or all of these or others like various API’s, HTML, CSS, and command line scripts. The projects change continually to align with the status and plans of the company; no two internships are alike. You'll learn a lot about perfecting a big process, which is different from the exploration in most college classes, where one moves quickly between learning lots of little concepts and techniques. Much of real world software engineering is about refinement (as opposed to exploration), so our projects often involve code optimization, documentation, and general proofreading for a greater share of time than writing new code.

Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with our software team and other teams, applying AI in a collaborative spirit: use AI tools to draft, generate, and debug code and to speed up development, iterating quickly rather than starting from scratch. Like every position at NourishCap, you will use AI as "an intern to the intern," by directing, correcting, and teaching AI tools, because teaching the AI is one of the best ways for you to learn. You will also share broad responsibility for proofreading and quality assurance, checking not only your own output but also output produced by every other position across the company, and you maintain clear documentation of your code, data sources, and projects so the next intern can continue the pipeline. All of your feedback and suggestions drive mounting, lasting process improvements. You may occasionally assist other departments as needs arise, and if your interests align more closely with a parallel role, we will help redirect you to the position that best fits your goals.
