About the role

Introduction

NourishCap.com creates educational, documentary, scientific, and artistic shows about health, mind, and mushrooms. Our mission is to expand public embrace of culinary, functional, and practical mushrooms by creating educational content and offering vetted products. By interning with us, you get practical training and real-world projects related to applying your major.

Over the years, we have trained hundreds of interns! We took the time to write this thorough internship description because it answers most of the questions people have and is a preview to how we provide much information throughout each internship. Read this entire description closely and take detailed notes because we quiz applicants about it during the interview process.

Project-based Learning: Interns on this team focus on coding that supports our business-to-business (B2B) offerings, building and maintaining the systems, tools, and content pipelines that help us reach partners, wholesale buyers, and other organizations. Interns on this team will participate in at least one main project, and optionally, several smaller projects to gain various software development experiences. This internship prioritizes high autonomy and AI-assisted workflow integration: you will actively manage, orchestrate, and debug code and content from AI tools (vibe code), as well as make tools that use AI (for accomplishing analysis or synthesizing outputs). You will also learn about our company's subject matter, proofreading, documentation, and a spectrum of professional topics. Coding has only ever been a portion of the duties of a programmer, this is even more the case today.

The main project for this internship is the pipeline for marketing NourishCap offerings: the systems and tools we use to research, produce, and publish content and campaigns that promote our mushrooms and related products across our website, email, and social channels, using AI and other tools to help create, automate, and optimize that content. Your training experience will be aligned with the activities of the company during the time of your internship, so while overarching training and responsibilities will be similar to what is described here, the projects and details of the experience will evolve over time. You'll learn a lot about perfecting a big process, which is different from the exploration in most college classes, where one moves quickly between learning lots of little concepts and techniques. Much of real world software engineering is about refinement (as opposed to exploration), so our projects often involve code optimization, documentation, and general proofreading for a greater share of time than writing new code.

Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with our software team and other teams, applying AI in a collaborative spirit: use AI tools to draft, generate, and debug code and to speed up development, iterating quickly rather than starting from scratch. Like every position at NourishCap, you will use AI as "an intern to the intern," by directing, correcting, and teaching AI tools, because teaching the AI is one of the best ways for you to learn. You will also share broad responsibility for proofreading and quality assurance, checking not only your own output but also output produced by every other position across the company, and you maintain clear documentation of your code, data sources, and projects so the next intern can continue the pipeline. All of your feedback and suggestions drive mounting, lasting process improvements. You may occasionally assist other departments as needs arise, and if your interests align more closely with a parallel role, we will help redirect you to the position that best fits your goals.

See below about the prerequisites that must be fulfilled *before* applying to this position.

Training and Responsibilities May Include But Will Not Be Limited To

  • Collaborate with others on a variety of projects, such as troubleshooting, debugging, improving efficiency, understanding software architecture, and using sophisticated development compilation and deployment tools
  • Prioritize and execute tasks in the software development life cycle such as design database architecture, testing and debugging applications, and validating software functionality and security
  • Build and improve landing pages, emails, and social posts that promote NourishCap products in order to increase the conversion rates of our marketing campaigns and lower the cost. This involves developing and refining a system of templates and AI-assisted tools to automate and optimize the creation of this content
  • Improve software project managemen
